WJUSD Board of Trustees Appoints Debbie Decker to Vacant Area 5 Seat

The Woodland Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees appointed Debbie Decker to the vacant Area 5 board seat on Thursday, Feb.

The vacancy, which was created by the resignation of elected Governing Board Member Juan Muñoz, was filled through a Provisional Appointee process in which eligible community members submitted applications by Feb. 2. The Board of Trustees conducted interviews with the two applicants, Debbie Decker and John Littau, during open session of Thursday’s board meeting and then voted to select a new trustee.

“We are very thankful to have such great community members who are dedicated to supporting the youth of our community,” said Maria Armstrong, Ed.D., WJUSD Superintendent. “The District is excited to have all of our areas represented once again.”

Decker has lived in Woodland for 31 years. She has been an active parent in several Woodland schools and has specific interests in higher education and STEM instruction through her work at UC Davis as the Safety Manager for the Chemistry Department and in visual and performing arts as a musician.

“I have wanted to be on the Board for many years and have been involved for quite a long time, starting as a parent volunteer, then a site council member and PTA President,” said Decker.  “I believe every student deserves a top flight education and our community deserves well-educated and community-minded young people. I am excited to now be an advocate for our community as a trustee.”
