Woodland Joint Unified School District GATE Enrichment Program Liaisons Michele Mitchell and April Gusé report that the seventh annual GATE student art show was a great success. More than 400 parents, students and community members enjoyed the artwork on display. The show took place on Friday, May 5, in conjunction with downtown Woodland’s First Friday Art Walk.
The art, displayed at 428 First Street, 2nd floor balcony, featured work created by more than 200 elementary and middle school GATE students who enrolled in after school art classes during the months of March and April. Classes included instruction in watercolor, texture and color, techniques in graphite and acrylic, study of art by the masters, drawing, Steampunk art, ceramics and jewelry making.
Many thanks to Christy Hayes for allowing the program to use the space above her restaurant and lounge; Kitchen 428 and Mojo’s. Thank you so much to the following people, without whom this event could not have happened: Ron Caceras, Mark & Kristyn Eagleton, Debra Gonella, Stephanie Miller, Angie Hyde and Stephanie Miller.
