Recent events have caused some to question Woodland Joint Unified School District’s support of free speech by students and staff.
WJUSD fully supports the free speech rights of all of our students, as long as their expressions do not negatively affect the health or safety of others. We welcome divergent opinions and are dedicated to providing safe environments in which students can express their beliefs. Ensuring that students are informed members of our democracy is critical to their development as adults.
During instructional time, we encourage our teachers and staff to neutrally facilitate conversations that teach students how they can analyze information to form their own opinions.
In addition, Woodland has a historical culture of inclusiveness. We are proud of the things that bring us together, and we embrace the differences that create our culturally rich community.
Each and every day, our teachers, administrators and support staff work together to provide an educational experience that allows our students to move forward being curious about the world, confident in themselves and excited about their futures.
