Fontline Education - Substitute Placement System
WJUSD utilizes Frontline Education (formerly known as Aesop) to place substitutes in assignments.  Once you are signed up as a substitute, you will be invited via email to create your login to access Frontline on the web.

We are hiring for the following substitute positions. Classified substitutes will be compensated at Step 1 of the CSEA salary schedule for the position, which they are filling.  Applications are accepted online at for the substitute opportunities listed below.

Eligibility Requirements:
All new candidates interested in substitute teaching in the Woodland Joint Unified School District must meet the following requirements:
  • Hold a teaching credential based on a degree and student teaching OR
  • Be eligible to apply for an Emergency 30-Day Substitute Teaching Permit which has the minimum requirements of:
    • Must possess a bachelor’s degree or higher; and
    • Passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) or CSET Multiple Subject with Writing
    • Certificate of Clearance

Substitute Training/Professional Development (for current substitutes only)
WJUSD offers an online Substitute Training/Professional Development class.  If you are interested in taking the online Substitute Training/Professional Development class, please contact Abraham Nava-Luna at You will be provided with an online coupon code and instructions via email. 

WJUSD allows substitutes to specify which subjects they are interested in covering, as well as which grade level(s), and school sites.
Student Teachers

  • Student teaching assignment is made at the school site and notification is sent to the Human Resources Department
  • Student submits an application to the Student Teacher Pool through EdJoin
  • The Human Resources Department emails the student teacher applicant onboarding information and forms to be completed                                                                                 
  • Requirements: complete EdJoin application, DOJ fingerprint clearance with WJUSD, valid TB test and Mandated Reporter Training certificate. 
  • WJUSD highly recommends student teachers apply to substitute teach by also applying for a 30 Day Substitute permit.
