Transition to Phase 2
We want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we transition to phase 2 limited in person instruction.  At this time we are closing the confirmation of attendance forms, in order to ensure we are able to establish our cohorts and social distancing measures. Confirmation letters will be sent to families reflecting their phase 2 commitment for participation. If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact the Special Education Department at 530-406-3150. Thank you again, for your time and consideration.

The District negotiations teams continue to collaborate with Woodland Education Association (WEA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) to develop agreements for the safe return of our staff and students for Phase 2 in-person instruction and other services.  WJUSD is required by law to bargain the effects of a change in working conditions for its employees.  However, as of yesterday (November 5, 2020), we have not yet reached an agreement with our labor associations.  Therefore, it has been determined that we will need to temporarily delay the implementation of Phase 2 . WJUSD is committed to continue working towards providing in-person instructional services to students with special needs and we will keep you informed as we progress towards a new start date.

We want to thank you for your understanding during this time. Please do not hesitate to contact the Special Education Department with any questions or concerns regarding this matter.

Welcome to Special Education

Woodland Joint Unified School District Special Education Department provides a continuum of service delivery options serving students with disabilities from preschool through age 22.  Currently, the department serves approximately 10 percent of the District’s total student population. Services include special day class programs, resource specialist services, and designated instructional services in the areas of speech and language, occupational therapy, behavioral support and workability. The department also hosts regionalized programs for preschool age students including both specialized academic instruction and clinic based services to support students on the Autism Spectrum.

Woodland Joint Unified School District participates in the Yolo County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) along with Davis Joint Unified, Esparto Unified, Washington Unified and Winters Joint Unified school districts. The goal of SELPA is to deliver high quality special education programs and services to special needs students in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

It is the goal of Woodland Joint Unified School District Special Education Department to increase integration and collaborative work between special and general education staff with the implementation of the Response to Intervention (RtI) model.  There is an ongoing effort to develop inclusive programs through the blended resource specialist program (RSP) and special day class (SDC) programs.

It is the goal of this website to provide information about special education that is useful to our staff, parents and community as we endeavor to help each and every student become all that he or she can be.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with your suggestions, comments and questions.

Yours in education,
