Special Education

Welcome to Special Education

'Woodland Joint Unified School District Special Education Department provides a continuum of service delivery options serving students with disabilities from preschool through age 22.  Currently, the department serves approximately 10 percent of the District’s total student population. Services include special day class programs, resource specialist services, and designated instructional services in the areas of speech and language, occupational therapy, behavioral support and workability. The department also hosts regionalized programs for preschool age students including both specialized academic instruction and clinic based services to support students on the Autism Spectrum.

Woodland Joint Unified School District participates in the Yolo County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) along with Davis Joint Unified, Esparto Unified, Washington Unified and Winters Joint Unified school districts. The goal of SELPA is to deliver high quality special education programs and services to special needs students in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible.

It is the goal of Woodland Joint Unified School District Special Education Department to increase integration and collaborative work between special and general education staff with the implementation of the Response to Intervention (RtI) model.  There is an ongoing effort to develop inclusive programs through the blended resource specialist program (RSP) and special day class (SDC) programs.

It is the goal of this website to provide information about special education that is useful to our staff, parents and community as we endeavor to help each and every student become all that he or she can be.  Please do not hesitate to contact me with your suggestions, comments and questions.

Yours in education,
