Dear WJUSD Families,
Welcome back! We are excited to start the 2017-18 school year and look forward to continuing to support our students through their K-12 journey, while also strengthening communication and engagement with our families and community.
This year, Woodland Joint Unified School District is focused on supporting all students to ensure they continue to achieve and learn, and upon high school graduation, are ready for the career or college of their choice. To help ensure our students are successful, we are investing in our staff to provide the best instruction possible and supporting both the academic and social and emotional needs of our students.
Last year, we made some great strides – our reclassification rate for English-language learners jumped to 18 percent, we distributed 3,000 Chromebooks to students and engaged with more families than ever before through Parent University.
As a District, we will continue to improve student achievement by providing targeted support in math and English instruction, increase students’ voice and choice in their learning options and create more opportunities for our families to be involved and informed. Student achievement data will continue to guide our efforts to ensure we identify what works, and how we can continue to improve.
Throughout the year, I encourage you to get involved at your school – ask your site principal about committees, site councils or PTA opportunities. Our Family Empowerment team is offering new classes throughout the year that help strengthen family bonds through Parent Project. The District is also using a new tool for families – the Aeries Parent Portal – that provides access to student profiles, assignments, grades and an events calendar. More information about the Parent Portal is available at www.wjusd.org/parentportal.
In addition to academic and social and emotional support, our amazing team will also focus on improving our facilities and creating engaging learning environments where our students feel safe and welcome. We want our students to not only succeed academically, but be proud of the schools they grew up in.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to reaching new heights together as a team.
