WJUSD Board Approves School Attendance Boundary Adjustments
The Woodland Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees approved new school attendance boundaries at its Sept. 24, 2026 meeting, marking the final step in a multi-year process to balance student enrollment across District schools.
The Board approved Elementary Map Option C and Secondary Map Option B (See Maps Below).
The new boundaries will take effect beginning with the 2027–28 school year.
The last time our District went through a similar process was over 25 years ago.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
When will new boundaries take effect?
The new boundaries will be effective for the start of the 2027–28 school year.
Will my student have to change schools?
This process will have a phased-in approach. All students currently enrolled in a WJUSD middle school or high school will not be affected by the boundary changes.
Students currently enrolled at an elementary school will have the opportunity to complete all grades served by their current school. Current elementary school students whose home address falls within a secondary boundary area that changes will be assigned to a middle school and high school based on the new boundary.
All new students at any grade level will be assigned based on the new boundary beginning in 2027-28.
Will siblings be allowed to stay together?
Yes. If an older sibling residing at the same address is already enrolled at the currently assigned school based on home address, the younger sibling may enroll at the same school, even if their boundary assignment has changed. This does not apply if the older sibling is already transferring, however, and the same transfer process will still need to be followed as for the younger student.
Will busing or transportation change?
WJUSD will continue to provide transportation to any student who is assigned to a school more than three miles away from the student’s home.
Why is the District considering new attendance boundaries?
The District's current boundaries are unbalanced. Some schools are enrolled close to their comfortable capacity, while others have significant unused space. Current population and development trends show this imbalance will likely grow over time. Adjusting attendance boundaries allows the District to better balance enrollment across schools so that facilities, staffing, and programs are used efficiently and equitably districtwide.
What happens if boundaries stay the same?
Overcrowded schools would continue to face pressure on classrooms, shared spaces, and support services. Meanwhile, under-enrolled schools would operate inefficiently, have fewer options for some classes, and have more potential for combination classes or grades with only one classroom at an elementary school.
Who created the proposed boundary maps?
An independent demographer created initial boundary options based on input from the WJUSD Board of Trustees at public meetings last school year. Over the summer, a Boundaries Committee made up of site principals and other District staff, as well as three Board of Trustees members, worked with the demographer to refine the boundary options. The WJUSD Board of Trustees reviewed the Committee's work and offered feedback at its August 6 Board meeting, resulting in the final options presented to the community.
How many options are being considered?
Three options were considered for elementary school boundaries, and three separate options were considered for secondary school boundaries.
What if I was not able to attend a community meeting?
You can watch a video of a presentation.
