About

In 2023, Woodland Joint Unified School District began the planning phase to bring the Community Schools model to our district. Through needs assessments and asset mapping conducted with input from staff, parents, students, and community partners, we identified key priorities and strengths across our school communities.

In May 2025, WJUSD was awarded the California Community Schools Partnership Program (CCSPP) Implementation Grant to implement the Community Schools model at four of our sites:

  • Dingle Elementary
  • Lee Middle School
  • Whitehead Elementary
  • Woodland Prairie

A community school strategy transforms a school into a place where educators, local community members, families, and students work together to strengthen conditions for student learning and healthy development. As partners, they organize in-and-out of school resources, supports, and opportunities so that young people thrive. (Community Schools Forward, 2023)

The Community Schools model provides a comprehensive framework for fostering healthy, thriving school communities. It emphasizes:

  • Integrated, whole-child support services that address academic, social-emotional, and basic needs.
  • Shared leadership and collaboration among families, staff, students, and community partners.
  • Increased family and community engagement to strengthen partnerships and connections.
  • Extended learning opportunities that enrich student learning and development.

Becoming a Community School represents a shift in both mindset and practice. It is a research- based strengths approach that builds on the assets of each school community to ensure every student is healthy, supported, and ready to learn.
Community Schools Presents: Screenagers

Community Schools Presents: Screenagers

Back by popular demand,  WJUSD is hosting 4 Screenagers events.
Raising kids in today’s digital world isn’t easy. From phones and social media to gaming and screen time battles, many of us are trying to figure it out as we go. You’re not alone.

We invite you to attend a special showing of Screenagers, a series of four award-winning documentaries that explore the challenges families face with technology and offer practical, real-life strategies to help create healthier habits at home. Spanish translation will be available, and we’ll have a guided discussion after the film so families can share ideas, ask questions, and learn from one another.
This is a great opportunity to connect with other parents and walk away with tools you can use right away. We hope you’ll join us!
