Reading Screener for K-2
Education Code 53008 establishes a requirement for districts to screen students in kindergarten through second grade for reading difficulties. The district has adopted Multitudes as the Reading Difficulty Risk Screener for use in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade classrooms.
The purpose of the screening includes:
- Part of a comprehensive instructional strategy; used to inform instruction and measure progress; identify learning needs; enable parents and educators to discuss learning needs in an informed way
- Help families and teachers achieve the best learning and life outcomes for all pupils and close academic achievement gaps
- Results are to be used as a flag for potential risk, not a diagnosis
- Results should be included as part of a broader process that evaluates pupil needs and progress, identifies supports for classroom instruction, enables targeted intervention
Testing windows will be distributed each year to school sites. After testing, schools have 45 days to inform parents of the test results.
