WOODLAND, Calif. - The Woodland Joint Unified School District has taken a big step closer toward addressing the district’s facilities needs.

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the WJUSD Board of Trustees approved the districtwide facilities assessment. This comprehensive assessment provides a long-range roadmap for making future improvements at various schools across the district, including an evaluation of the needed repairs and upgrades at each site.

In total, the assessment identified over $600 million worth of facilities needs and potential upgrades throughout the district.
Community members provided input on the districtwide facilities assessment during a series of town hall meetings in December 2021.  Students, teachers, staff, and administrators also provided input via online surveys.

To begin acting on the needs identified in the assessment, the board directed staff to create a five-year capital improvement plan for consideration and will determine how to prioritize projects based on staff recommendations. The board will review the capital improvement plan annually to review the district’s progress in achieving these infrastructure improvement goals.

The plan will include a list of projects to be funded by Measure Y, the $44 million bond passed by Woodland voters in November 2020.  Measure Y funds will be used to address immediate needs identified at each school site, classroom modernization, the construction of lunch shade structures at schools that do not have them, and school site security improvements.

"Now that we have completed the districtwide facilities assessment, we can begin moving forward with important projects that will modernize classrooms, improve school security, and address the most immediate infrastructure needs at all of our schools,” said WJUSD Board President Jake Whitaker. “The board has a responsibility to the taxpayers and to our community to invest the Measure Y bond funding wisely, and we are well-positioned to deliver on that promise. I am looking forward to implementing the district's capital improvement plan and supporting a renewed effort to address the district's significant facilities needs."
