WOODLAND, Calif. - Spring Lake Elementary School in Woodland held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a brand new wing of classrooms on Aug. 10.

Opened in 2018, Spring Lake Elementary is the newest school in the Woodland Joint Unified School District.

The school opened with grades from transitional kindergarten (TK) to 3rd grade in 2018 and offers a unique STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and project-based learning program. Students now range from TK to 6th grade as the school has grown over time. In November the school opened its new multi-purpose room.

The final classroom wing features four additional classrooms for 5th and 6th grade students, collaborative spaces, and a dedicated STEAM classroom equipped for students of all grade levels to engage in projects and activities centered around science, technology, and art.

“Spring Lake Elementary is excited to announce the opening of its new and final wing of classrooms,” said Spring Lake Elementary Principal Stacey Falconer. “This addition is the culminating piece of a five-year project creating WJUSD's innovative STEAM-focused elementary school. Bright colors, a modern aesthetic, and multi-functional furniture inspire our students to apply their creativity and ingenuity towards exciting learning experiences.”

WJUSD Board of Trustees President Jake Whitaker celebrated the completion of the new classrooms.

"As we continue to make progress towards meeting the district's capacity and facilities needs, it feels great to celebrate yet another major milestone,” said President Whitaker. “Building a new school is a massive undertaking. With the completion of this final wing of classrooms, we are one step closer to the completion of Spring Lake Elementary School."

Superintendent Elodia Ortega-Lampkin said the final wing of classrooms reflects the district’s and community’s commitment to high-quality education for Woodland students.

“WJUSD is committed to prepare and empower all students for a future of endless possibilities,” said Superintendent Ortega-Lampkin. “These new classrooms support our goals of meeting each student’s social-emotional and academic needs and ensuring they are college and career ready by the time they graduate high school.”
