2023 Elementary STEAM Summer School

All student referrals were submitted by the child's teachers. If you have any questions regarding that process please contact your child’s teacher.
 
Tafoya Elementary School runs from 8:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Dingle and Whitehead elementary schools from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Program Enrollment: Parents received enrollment status notification via Parent Square/email on 5/1/2023. 
Students who were waitlisted also received notification on 5/1/2023 as well.

Free Kindercamp

Help get your child ready for kindergarten! Sign up for a free summer program for incoming kindergartners who haven’t had preschool experience.

Expanding Minds Full Day Summer Camp June15-July 14:
Current TK - 6 grade students. Daily from 8:00 am - 5:00pm (except holidays). Includes traditional summer camp in the morning, a rotation of enrichment camps in the afternoon, and field trips. Sample of enrichment being offered: FireFly art, Little Heroes, codeCampus, Woodland Opera House, TANA, etc (subject to change).
 
Summer Enrichment Camps for grades 4th-11th grade. 
*Enrollment will be on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice basis.
 
Transportation is not provided for Summer Enrichment Camp Programs. Sample of enrichment being offered: Team Media Bus, Music, Digital Minds Robotics, etc (subject to change). Enrichment Camps will be offered at Douglass Middle School (DMS) and Woodland High School (WHS).

gate summer enrichment academy 2023

Enrichment Academy is a summer program for GATE and recommended students in grades 4-8 that are looking for challenges in STEAM subject areas. The program focuses on the separate subject areas of Science – Technology – Engineering – Art – Math as well as the many connections between them. The program includes elements from Algebra Academy, while bringing in many new activities. Highlights include building hot air balloons, launching rockets, programming and operating robots, coding, and art. Students will create art projects and discover how art is in all aspects of STEM.

There are four Enrichment Program Sessions this year:
Session A (Grades 4-6): June 15 - 22 (no school June 19)
Session B (Grades 6-8): June 23 - 29
Session C (Grades 4-6): June 30 - July 7 (no school July 4)
Session D (Grades 4-6): July 10 - 14

Time: 8:00 am - 11:30 am
Location: Douglass Middle School

2023 Extended School Year (ESY) Programs
 

2023 Extended School Year (ESY) Programs
 

The Extended School Year (ESY) program is for students who have an offer of ESY included in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). The purpose of ESY is to help students who show regression and lack of recoupment of skills after school breaks retain skills and progress towards IEP goals. Students must meet eligibility criteria for ESY and have a current offer on their IEP.

Adult Living Skills Program - Adult School 

Hours: 
Preschool: AM Session 8:30 am - 10:15 am

Elementary/Middle/ALS: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm 

Transportation: 
Provided to those students with an offer of transportation on their IEP.

Freshman Leadership Academy

 
The Freshman Leadership Academy is a 4-week program that is run by the Early Academic Outreach Program from UCD, and by the Yolo County ASSETS program. This academy is open to a total of 50 incoming ninth graders who are currently enrolled in the Woodland School District. 
In this academy, participants will develop:
 
  • Strengths and leadership skills
  • College knowledge
  • “Soft skills” they will need for future employment
 
Students will also participate in college campus visits during the academy. A total of 5 elective high school credits will be given to students who complete the program.
 

Summer at City Hall


The Summer at City Hall is a 3-week program for current Woodland JUSD high school students who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how local government works. Classes are held each day at Woodland City Hall.
 

Credit Recovery

 
Credit Recovery is a 4-week program (June 15-July 14) 8:30-12:35pm that is open to current Woodland District high school students who need to retake up to two semesters of coursework in which they previously received a semester grade of D or F, or those students who received a passing grade for the course, but who would like to improve their grade. Students who need summer school will have been recommended by their high school academic counselor. Courses will be offered in academic core areas (English, math, history, science) and possibly in other areas, as well, depending on student need and teacher availability.

This program is NOT open to students who have not previously completed the course.

This year’s Summer STEAM Academy will be held at Douglass Middle School. Our summer program will be an enrichment academy and focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) . 
 
Our Middle School STEAM Academy is  open to all WJUSD students who will attend 7th or 8th grade in the fall. If your child is interested in attending, please complete the following Summer School Interest Form. 
 
 
Dates:  June 15-July 14, 2023.
Hours: 8:30AM-12:30PM. 
Observed Holidays (no school): June 19th and July 4th.
 
Location: Douglass Middle School
 
Breakfast and Lunch: Served daily to all students. 
 
Transportation: Must be provided by parent/guardian.

Middle School Summer Bridge AVID-Excel Program
 

The AVID Excel Summer Bridge is an opportunity to continue learning and stay connected with school for our AVID Excel scholars. It is a two-week, 4-hour-per-day experience that includes opportunities for community building, leadership development, English language and literacy support, and academic skill building.  The program is open to all WJUSD students who will attend 7th or 8th grade in the fall. Youth Leadership Academy June 21 - July 14

WJUSD and the UC Davis Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) are excited to host a summer academy for incoming 7th graders at Lee and Douglass middle schools. The goal of this summer academy is to ease the transition to middle school and develop students' leadership and team-building skills as well as have fun!
