WJUSD Expanding Minds Summer Intersession (Now includes our previous Elementary STEAM Program)


The WJUSD Expanding Minds Summer Intersession is a full-day program with enrichment activities from June 10 - July 22, 2024, for current TK - 5th-grade students.  

Programs will be held at Gibson, Woodland Prairie, and Freeman elementary schools daily from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. 

Transportation is available. The transportation request form is due by May 24.

Deadline to enroll: April 4
Parent confirmation: May 15 and beyond
 

Summer Enrichment Camps


We are also offering Summer Enrichment Camps for our current 4th -11th-grade students who are not participating in our Summer Intersession.

Enrollment will be on a 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice basis. Enrichment courses include Media Bus, Ballet Folklórico, Band, Orchestra, Mariachi, and Digital Minds Robotics.

Transportation is not provided for Summer Enrichment Camps.

Help get your child ready for kindergarten! Sign up for a free summer program for incoming kindergartners who haven’t had preschool experience.

Freshman Leadership Academy

 
The Freshman Leadership Academy is a FREE summer academy for incoming 9th-graders attending either Pioneer or Woodland High School. The 4-week program runs at the same time as summer school. Participants must commit to the entire duration of the academy.
 
It is offered by the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) from UCD, and by the Yolo County ASSETS program. This academy is open to a total of 42 incoming ninth graders who are currently enrolled in the Woodland Joint Unified School District.

In this academy, participants will develop:
 
  • Strengths and leadership skills
  • College knowledge
  • College campus visits
  • Trip to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk
  • “Soft skills” they will need for future employment
  • 5 elective high school credits.
 
Program is from June 12 - July 12.
Observed Holidays (no school): June 19th and July 4th.

High School Credit Recovery

 
Credit Recovery is a 4-week program (June 13-July 12) 8:30 a.m. - 12:35 p.m. at Pioneer High School and is open to current Woodland Joint Unified School District high school students who need to retake up to two semesters of coursework in which they previously received a semester grade of D or F. Students who need summer school can sign up through their high school academic counselor. Courses will be offered in academic core areas (English, math, history, science) and possibly in other areas, both through Edgenuity and through live instruction, depending on student need and teacher availability.
 
This program is NOT open to students who have not previously completed the course.

2024 Middle School Summer STEAM Academy
 

This year’s Summer STEAM Academy will be held at Douglass Middle School June 13 - July 12 from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Our summer program will be an enrichment academy and focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).
 
Our Middle School STEAM Academy is open to all WJUSD students who will attend 7th or 8th grade in the fall. If your child is interested in attending, please reach out to their school counselor.

2024 Middle School Summer Bridge AVID-Excel Program
 

The AVID Excel Summer Bridge is an opportunity to continue learning and stay connected with school for our AVID Excel scholars. It is a two-week, 4-hour-per-day experience at Douglass Middle School that includes opportunities for community building, leadership development, English language and literacy support, and academic skill building.  The program is open to all WJUSD English Learner students who will attend 7th or 8th grade in the fall. If your child is interested in attending, please contact your school counselor.
