enrollment for 2024 - 2025

Part Day enrollment begins on April 22, 2024 and Full Day enrollment begins on July 15, 2024 for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

The State Preschool program offers six part-day and three full-day comprehensive developmental programs for three to four-year-old children for income-eligible families. The program encourages parent education and parent involvement. In addition to developmental, cultural, and linguistic preschool activities, they offer school meals and referrals to health and social services for families.

  • Part-day morning hours (8:15 - 11:45 a.m.)
  • Part-day afternoon hours (12:30 - 4 p.m.)
  • Full-day hours (8 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

The preschool program is available at these WJUSD elementary schools:

  • Beamer Park (part-day)
  • Dingle (part-day)
  • Freeman (part-day)
  • Maxwell (part-day and full day)
  • Gibson (full-day)
  • Whitehead (part-day)
  • Woodland Prairie (part-day and full-day)

In our preschool program students will: develop early literacy skills such as oral language, listening and speaking, phonemic awareness, vocabulary development, problem-solving, prewriting, comprehension, and critical thinking skills.

Our core curriculum is aligned with the California Preschool Learning Foundations and California Preschools Learning Frameworks.  Each guide is a research-based document that provides standards and developmentally appropriate practices to increase student success.  Guided by the Foundations and Frameworks, our teachers use various instructional methods and strategies such as those reflected in the Sobrato Early Academic Language (SEAL) suite of strategies to address the diverse needs of all children.

Furthermore, our students are assessed using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP) twice each school year.  The results from the DRDP are shared with parents so they can see their child's progress in learning, math, science, literacy, and physical growth.
